Pau Cubarsí wants to be Barcelona captain and embrace Hansi Flick's philosophy

Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí has revealed his ambition to become a key leader in the club's defensive line. The 19-year-old emphasized his full support for the high-risk tactical approach implemented by Hansi Flick. Despite receiving a red card in the Champions League quarter-finals that contributed to his team's exit, he remains committed to this system. This is reported by Goal.com .
Since joining the first team in January 2024, Cubarsí has already made 128 appearances in all competitions. In an interview with Catalunya Radio, he expressed his intention to become one of the club's main leaders. "I am still young and have a long way to go, but I need to gain experience. Over time, this will help me take on a leadership role, as a defender, along with the goalkeeper, sees the entire pitch," he explained.
Although Hansi Flick's tactics have been criticized for their risky nature, Cubarsí stated that the team believes in the coach's vision. Reflecting on his sending-off against Atlético Madrid, he considers it a learning process: "That is the coach's philosophy, and we will stick with it until the end. When we are focused, we see that this system works very well. These mistakes will be a lesson for me in the future."
Cubarsí, an Olympic gold medalist, has already won La Liga twice, the Copa del Rey once, and the Supercopa de España twice. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the team is hungry for more trophies. "Winning the league twice in a row shows we did a great job throughout the season, but the failures in the Champions League and the cup still haunt us," the defender added.
