Fabio Capello identifies the main flaw in the Real Madrid squad

Former Real Madrid head coach Fabio Capello has shared a sharp assessment of the team's current state, highlighting a lack of quality in midfield. As the Spanish giants prepare for the summer transfer window and the potential return of Jose Mourinho, the Italian expert emphasized the need to focus on technical intelligence. This is reported by Goal.com .
The 2025-26 season was unsuccessful for Real Madrid. The team finished without major trophies and trailed Barcelona in La Liga. Even the 4-2 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the final round could not mask the squad's issues. Speaking about the club's future, Capello stated that identifying and addressing the team's weak points is essential.
According to Capello, the main problem lies in the midfield. The void left by the departure and aging of legendary players has yet to be filled. "What would I change in the Real Madrid squad? We need to find players like Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in midfield. These players were the foundation of the team with their quality and tactical intelligence. This is exactly what has been missing in recent years," the expert said.
As Jose Mourinho is expected to take charge of the team for a second time this summer, the club is in negotiations with several stars. Manchester City midfielder Rodri is one of the primary targets. Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez is also on the list, though his price tag could complicate a transfer.
Another candidate is Sporting CP player Morten Hjulmand. The Danish midfielder is one of Mourinho's favorites and could be a more affordable solution to restore the tactical balance Capello mentioned. The Real Madrid board plans a major squad overhaul ahead of the new season.
