France Recognises Palestine

French President Emmanuel Macron announced at a UN meeting that his country has recognised the State of Palestine. He said the war in Gaza must stop and peace must be established.
France and Saudi Arabia held a summit at the UN on a two-state solution. Several European countries also announced plans to recognise Palestine.
Macron stressed the importance of freeing hostages and restoring peace in Gaza. The European Union announced the creation of a new financial mechanism to rebuild Gaza.
Israel criticised this decision. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said a ceasefire is necessary and stated that Hamas should not take part in governing Gaza.
