US fighter jet shot down over Iran: one crew member rescued

Reports have emerged that a US F-15 fighter jet was shot down over Iranian territory. According to Axios, one of the two crew members on board was located and successfully rescued by US special forces. The search for the second crew member is still ongoing.

Sources say the aircraft was damaged by fire from Iran, and the crew managed to eject. The rescued serviceman was found within Iranian territory.

Iran has also launched efforts to locate the missing crew member. State television announced that a reward has been offered to local residents for participating in the search.

Israeli officials stated that they are assisting the United States with intelligence. At the same time, it is reported that some planned Israeli strikes were canceled to avoid interfering with the search and rescue operation.

The downed F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft carries a two-person crew — a pilot and a weapons systems officer. These aircraft are widely used in both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Trump had been briefed on the incident.

Earlier, Donald Trump had stated that Iran’s air defense capabilities had been destroyed and that US military forces are “unstoppable.”
