PSG won in penalties: an intense drama took place in the Super Cup

The match from the UEFA Super Cup between “Tottenham” — PSG ended 2:2 in regular time. In the penalty shootout, however, the Parisians prevailed and, in a swift final, captured the trophy (regular time 2:2, penalty shootout 4:3). In the anticipated showdown the rhythm changed every minute: despite the London team’s early lead, Enrique’s pupils showed character in the last moments, leveled the result, and then with a series of accurate strikes brought the job to completion.

First, in the 39th minute, the “Spurs” defender Micky Van de Ven opened the score — a goal sent into the net after an action from a set piece gave the team confidence. At the very start of the second half another defender, Cristian Romero, by choosing the right spot in time, increased the gap to 2 (48th minute). From that point PSG increased the pace: attacks from the flanks, combinations in the center, and the fight for the second ball intensified.

Aiming for a comeback, the Parisians in the 85th minute, through Li Kan In who came on from the bench, reduced the score — he chose the right position and skillfully finished the situation. In the added minutes the script became completely heated: after a sharp pass from Usmon Dembele, Gonsalo Ramush struck in time and equalized the score to 2:2 (90+4). It is also the case that with their pressure in the last minutes, PSG left the opponent cautiously on the back line and seized a psychological advantage.

In the penalty shootout PSG demonstrated clear execution — the goalkeeper’s save and accurate shots tilted the score in favor of the Parisians (4:3). Thus, the team led by Luis Enrique achieved success in the UEFA Super Cup final and opened the season with a victory. This triumph is a psychological impulse for PSG, and for “Tottenham” an important lesson on the way to big goals with a competitive squad — especially once again reminding how difficult it is to hold the result when leading 2:0.
