According to the club's official statement, medical examinations confirmed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot. Consequently, the talented midfielder will need to undergo surgery.

This unfortunate news comes as a blow to Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente. Fermin Lopez was expected to be included in the squad for the upcoming World Cup, but the recovery process, which will take at least six to eight weeks, makes his participation in the tournament impossible.

Fermin Lopez had become a key player for Barcelona this season. He will miss not only the club's upcoming match against Valencia but also Spain's World Cup opening game against Cape Verde on June 15.
