Alireza Firouzja continues tournament despite health issues

French grandmaster Alireza Firouzja has decided to continue his participation in the Grand Chess Tour in Romania despite serious health problems. This decision by the chess player is being met with great respect by fans and experts.

Firouzja stated that he needs rest, but he does not want to withdraw from the competition. He emphasized a unique aspect of chess: it can even be played while lying in bed.

"I still need to rest. Fortunately, you can play chess even while lying in bed. I want to continue playing because there are still five good games ahead. These will be interesting matches, and I am sure I will learn something from them," said Firouzja.

The grandmaster also mentioned that he consulted with doctors. According to him, they said he could participate in the competition if special conditions were met, such as playing while lying in bed with his leg elevated.

"When we went to the doctor, he said I could play if the conditions were right, meaning I lie in bed with my leg elevated throughout the game. The next question was whether the organizers could arrange this and if the opponents would agree. Everything was resolved positively. It would be a shame to forfeit games in such a situation," he added.

This situation demonstrates not only Firouzja's talent but also his willpower and attitude toward chess. Usually, an athlete might withdraw under such circumstances, but he prefers to learn from every game and continue the fight.

Firouzja also commented on his game against Javokhir Sindarov. He said he was not fully satisfied with the game, but was pleased with his performance in the endgame.

"The game against Sindarov was not very satisfactory, but in the end, despite my position being quite bad, I managed to play better in the endgame. Even though I didn't play well at the beginning, I am happy with how the endgame went," the chess player said.

In short, Alireza Firouzja is determined to continue the Grand Chess Tour despite his difficult condition. This is not just about chess, but about character. Continuing a match even while lying in bed is the true spirit of an athlete.
