DR Congo fans banned from entering the USA

New information has emerged regarding the participation of the DR Congo national team, which is in the same group as the Uzbekistan national team, in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to reports, Congolese players will undergo special medical examinations, and they will be allowed to participate in the tournament held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico only if their test results are negative.

However, the situation may be much more complicated for Congolese fans. According to information shared by Politico, CNN, and other international outlets, the USA has introduced enhanced sanitary controls due to the risk of the Ebola virus. It is reported that entry restrictions have been imposed on foreign citizens who have visited Uganda, DR Congo, or South Sudan.

Even if these restrictions are relaxed or lifted before the World Cup begins, it will not be easy for Congolese fans to attend the matches. This is because, upon arrival in the USA, they may be required to comply with isolation and quarantine requirements for several weeks. In practice, this limits the ability of many fans to enter the stadium and support their national team.

The DR Congo national team is expected to undergo established medical procedures to participate in the World Cup. Players, coaching staff, and delegation members will need to submit tests and meet health requirements.

As a reminder, DR Congo is in the same group as Uzbekistan, Portugal, and Colombia for the 2026 World Cup. The DR Congo national team will face the Uzbekistan national team in the 3rd round of the group stage.

This situation may cause additional organizational difficulties for Congo, as fan support in a major tournament affects team morale. If Congolese supporters cannot attend the matches in the USA, there is a possibility that the team will be left without the expected support in the stands.

In short, while Congolese players can attend the World Cup, the path for fans looks quite complicated. This factor will not go unnoticed ahead of the match against Uzbekistan. Football is played on the pitch, but sometimes off-field rules also influence the game.
