Why did Thomas Tuchel exclude Harry Maguire, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer from the squad?

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has explained his decision to leave stars like Harry Maguire, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer out of the World Cup squad. The German tactician admitted that making these calls was "painfully difficult," but emphasized the importance of maintaining balance and building a group based on "passion and excitement." This is reported by Goal.com .
According to Tuchel, the UEFA Nations League camps in September, October, and November were the key factors in shaping the final list. The coach did not hide that telling experienced players who have been the core of the national team for years that they would not be going to the tournament was one of the hardest tasks of his career.
"These were very difficult calls because I respect them all as players and as individuals. Each of them has been with us in camps and proven themselves. Cutting someone from a 55-man longlist is always painful, and I could feel their emotions even while speaking over the phone," said Thomas Tuchel.
The coach explained that the England squad cannot simply be filled with big names, especially regarding the need to maintain balance among attacking midfielders. He believes it is more beneficial to trust young players who bring fresh blood and passion to the team rather than playing stars in positions they are not accustomed to.
"We have young players who play with great passion. It has been a great mix of youth and experience, energy and leadership. I believe the atmosphere in the group formed since September will give us the best result," the coach concluded.
