Cristian Romero returns to England after harsh criticism from Tottenham legends

"Tottenham" defender Cristian Romero faced harsh criticism for traveling to Argentina while the club is at risk of relegation. Club legends like Glenn Hoddle and Teddy Sheringham questioned the player's loyalty and leadership skills. Nevertheless, the Argentine center-back has returned to England ahead of Sunday's crucial match against "Everton". This is reported by Goal.com .
Romero had gone to his homeland to treat a knee injury, but his attendance at a stadium to watch a match involving his former team "Belgrano" sparked major outrage around the London club. With the team fighting to stay in the Premier League, such actions by the captain raised many questions. Reports of a potential summer move to La Liga have further intensified the situation.
Former manager Glenn Hoddle strongly condemned the player's behavior: "I would have driven him to the airport and told him not to come back. It shows his selfishness. Someone who acts like this cannot be a captain. If he had left for family reasons, it would be understandable, but if he just went to watch football, they should leave him in Argentina and sell him for as much money as possible."
Teddy Sheringham agreed with these sentiments, emphasizing that a captain must be with his teammates. "The absence of a captain before the most important game in the club's history sets a bad example. He shouldn't even have been allowed to ask to leave. He should have been in the dressing room supporting his teammates," said Sheringham.
Currently, Romero cannot play due to an injury sustained against "Sunderland", but the club management hopes his presence with the team will improve morale. Head coach Roberto De Zerbi refused to comment on rumors regarding the defender's future.
