Hasan Salihamidzic revealed that Bayern could have signed a different striker instead of Harry Kane

Former Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has revealed details of the club's negotiations for the Harry Kane transfer. According to him, once it became clear that Robert Lewandowski would leave the team in 2022, the club's management began searching for a suitable replacement. This is reported by Goal.com .
Salihamidzic noted that Harry Kane was the primary target from the start, but at that time, Tottenham did not want to let their star go. Consequently, the Munich side was forced to consider alternative options. Among the candidates was Erling Haaland, but the Norwegian striker chose Manchester City after leaving Borussia Dortmund.
The option of Kylian Mbappe was also discussed, but financially, this transfer proved impossible for Bayern. Salihamidzic stated that the PSG star's salary and transfer fee did not fit the club's budget. As a result, Sadio Mane was signed from Liverpool in 2022, but he failed to make an impact in Munich.
In April 2023, Bayern's management traveled to London to meet with Harry Kane's family. Salihamidzic recalled having very positive conversations with the player's father and brother. Although the sporting director himself was dismissed before the transfer was finalized, he emphasized that Kane was the right choice for the team.
In the end, Bayern paid 95 million euros for Harry Kane. In Salihamidzic's opinion, the team always needed a strong central striker who could decide the outcome of a match, like Giovane Elber or Robert Lewandowski, and Kane is performing this task excellently.
