Several people were injured in the fan brawl, with one reported to be in serious condition. For security reasons, the kickoff for the Sunday evening match was delayed. During warm-ups, fans urged their team's players not to take the pitch.

Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli attempted to communicate with the fans to de-escalate the situation, but supporters threatened to storm the pitch if the game started. Consequently, the players temporarily retreated to the dressing rooms. After lengthy negotiations, the visiting fan section was completely cleared.

Finally, the match kicked off at 21:50 local time. This victory was vital for Juventus, who are fighting for a Champions League spot at the end of the Serie A season. Sitting in sixth place, the Turin side needed a win to keep pace with rivals like Milan, Roma, and Como.
