Uli Hoeneß accuses Lothar Matthäus of sabotaging transfer

Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß has sharply criticized former player and current TV pundit Lothar Matthäus. Hoeneß claims that Matthäus's public statements were the reason the Nick Woltemade transfer collapsed. The Munich executive revealed all the details of the situation in an interview with Der Spiegel. This was reported by Goal.com .
According to Hoeneß, Bayern had reached an agreement with the striker, and the transfer fee was expected to be around 50 million euros. However, after Matthäus stated in the press that the player's value was between 60-80 million euros, the VfB Stuttgart management came under pressure. As a result, the transfer fee increased, and the deal fell through.
"Matthäus must stop using his position to harm Bayern. Because of his comments as an expert, Stuttgart became afraid to sell the player for less, fearing public backlash," added Hoeneß. Ultimately, Nick Woltemade moved to the English club Newcastle United for 75 million euros.
Currently, Woltemade's career in England is not going as expected. Reports suggest there have been misunderstandings between the player and Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe. The coach is playing the striker in a deeper position, which has negatively impacted his efficiency and led to reduced playing time.
