Jose Mourinho expected to be costly for Real Madrid

According to recent media reports, Jose Mourinho is close to taking charge of Real Madrid again. However, this appointment could prove much more expensive for the club than anticipated. According to Bild and Portuguese broadcaster RTP, the deadline for the release clause in the coach's contract with Benfica has passed. This is reported by Goal.com reports .

Initially, Real Madrid could have signed the 63-year-old specialist for 7 million euros, but Tuesday's deadline was missed due to internal conflicts. Now, the "Royal Club" will have to pay 14 million euros for Jose Mourinho. The coach's current contract with the Lisbon club runs until 2027.

Club president Florentino Pérez criticized the media at a press conference and called for presidential elections. Currently, he is being challenged by Enrique Riquelme. Consequently, the agreement with Jose Mourinho has been put on hold until the election results are known. Nevertheless, the Benfica board believes in "The Special One's" return to Madrid.

If Mourinho leaves, Fulham manager Marco Silva is expected to take charge of Benfica. Although Jose Mourinho recorded an unbeaten streak during his time at the Portuguese club, he failed to win any trophies. In the Champions League playoffs, they were unable to overcome the hurdle of Real Madrid.

The season started poorly for Real Madrid. After Xabi Alonso left the team, his replacement Álvaro Arbeloa also failed to deliver the expected results. The defeat in the Supercopa final against Barcelona and internal conflicts are forcing the club to look for a new coach.
