Runway aims to compete with Google in the field of artificial intelligence

The AI startup Runway has chosen a path distinct from Silicon Valley traditions. Founded in New York, the company's founders began as creatives who met at art school, rather than relying on Stanford or Google experience. Today, Runway aims to shape the future of AI through video and world models rather than text. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
While many companies, including OpenAI and Anthropic, are focusing on language models like ChatGPT and Claude, Runway is offering a different approach. According to co-founder Anastasis Germanidis, the next stage of AI development should consist of data derived from observing the world, rather than just text described by humans.
Founded in 2018, Runway became known for its video generation models, particularly the Gen-4.5 technology. The company's tools are currently actively used by filmmakers and advertising agencies. Having established partnerships with major media companies like Lionsgate and AMC Networks, Runway even contributed to the production of the film “Everything Everywhere All At Once”.
Currently valued at $5.3 billion, Runway is also achieving financial success. In the second quarter of 2026, the company reached $40 million in annual recurring revenue. These figures confirm that Runway is a serious player in the AI market, not only from a creative but also from a business perspective.
