Andrej Karpathy joins Anthropic team

Renowned AI researcher and OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy has joined Anthropic. He announced this on his X social media page, emphasizing that the coming years of LLM (Large Language Model) development will be a critical phase. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reporting .
Karpathy has started working at Anthropic in the pre-training team led by Nick Joseph. His task is to form a new group that leverages AI capabilities to accelerate the development of Claude models. This stage is considered the most expensive and resource-intensive process that shapes the model's fundamental knowledge and capabilities.
The expert previously led Full Self-Driving (FSD) and Autopilot programs at Tesla and worked on deep learning and computer vision technologies at OpenAI. In 2024, he founded the education-focused startup Eureka Labs.
Karpathy stated that his interest in education remains high and he plans to continue his work in this area in the future. His joining the Anthropic team signifies the company's strong emphasis on its strategy of conducting AI-driven research to compete with OpenAI and Google.
