AI-powered search startups are rapidly entering the market

Yesterday, Google announced plans to overhaul its traditional search engine in favor of a new AI-powered experience. However, Google is not the only one working on the next generation of search engines. According to Bloomberg, the startup Exa Labs, backed by Andreessen Horowitz, has raised $250 million at a $2.5 billion valuation. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
Exa Labs is part of a wave of startups, including Tavily, TinyFish, and Parallel Web Systems, aiming to fundamentally transform the search industry. Parallel, led by former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, recently raised $100 million in an investment round led by Sequoia Capital, reaching a valuation of $2 billion.
Meanwhile, major platforms like Amazon, LinkedIn, and Reddit are also turning to AI to upgrade their search and discovery features. This indicates a large pool of potential acquirers ready to buy promising startups in the future.
Currently, the biggest competitor in this space remains ChatGPT. Until Google launches its new features, the majority of AI-driven searches were handled by the OpenAI platform.
For OpenAI, search is not the sole priority, while Google must protect its advertising business. This situation creates a favorable opportunity for smaller labs like Exa or Parallel to find their niche and shape new directions in the market.
