Google partner Xreal aims to revolutionize the smart glasses industry

The smart glasses industry has long been a dream of Silicon Valley. The idea is compelling: instead of staring at smartphones all day, people could wear a lightweight computing device on their faces. However, over the last decade, this sector has become a financial "black hole" where massive investments have yielded little profit. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

Chi Xu, founder and CEO of Xreal, a long-time Google partner, presented his new Project Aura at the Google I/O conference in Mountain View. According to him, all companies in the industry are currently operating at a loss because creating a comfortable and socially acceptable device is an extremely complex task. Nevertheless, Xu believes the industry has reached a new turning point.

These changes were driven by successful models released through the partnership between Meta and Ray-Ban. Xreal's new Aura model is equipped with OLED displays, allowing users to watch high-definition videos directly on the glasses. The device connects via cable to a small dedicated computing unit, which helps keep the glasses themselves lightweight and compact.

Aura users can use Google Maps in an immersive way, watch YouTube videos in VR format, and create holograms using hand-tracking technology. The company promises that this device is ideal for displaying recipes in the air while cooking, creating a personal workspace in cafes, or watching movies on a virtual big screen at home.
