Safe Coffee Consumption: Guidelines and Recommended Limits

Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages globally. It provides alertness, improves focus, and enhances productivity. However, excessive consumption can be detrimental to health.
According to expert recommendations, it is considered safe for healthy adults to consume an average of 2–3 cups (approximately 400 mg of caffeine) per day. This amount generally does not negatively affect the cardiovascular or nervous systems.
However, consuming more than 4–5 cups of coffee per day may place excessive strain on the body. In such cases, the following issues may occur:
- tachycardia;
- insomnia and restlessness;
- nervousness and irritability;
- gastrointestinal discomfort.
It is particularly recommended that pregnant women, individuals with cardiovascular diseases, and those suffering from sleep disorders further limit their coffee intake.
Additionally, coffee consumed in the evening can impair sleep quality; therefore, it is preferable to consume it in the morning or early afternoon.
