What are the consequences of eating before sleep?

Many people have developed the habit of eating before bedtime while watching TV, scrolling through their phones, or working. At first glance, this may seem normal, but consuming heavy meals at night, when the body is preparing to rest, places an excessive burden on the digestive system.
Eating before sleep can lead to gastric heaviness, heartburn, bloating, and a decrease in sleep quality. In particular, fatty, spicy, sugary, or indigestible foods force the body to remain active at night instead of allowing it to rest.
Such a habit can also contribute to weight gain. Since a person is less active at night, the body does not have enough time to burn the consumed calories. As a result, the likelihood of excess energy being stored as adipose tissue increases. If this persists, it may lead to a slowed metabolism and an increased risk of obesity.
