New initiative to stop the war in Sudan
The United States, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt announced a new initiative to stop the war in Sudan. According to the plan, a three-month humanitarian truce should be implemented, followed by a permanent ceasefire.

In their peace roadmap, the countries propose a nine-month transitional period after the truce, during which a civilian-led government should be formed. They said the conflict cannot be resolved by military means.

Fighting in Sudan continues particularly in the Darfur region. The RSF (Rapid Support Forces) controls a large area there, and hunger is worsening due to the siege of Al-Fashir city.

The U.S. also imposed sanctions on Sudan’s finance minister Jibril Ibrahim and a militia linked to the army.
