Trump proposes limiting Chinese planes

The U.S. government proposed banning Chinese airlines from flying over Russia on routes to the United States. Officials say this creates unfair competition for American planes.

The proposal applies only to passenger flights, cargo flights are not restricted. China’s foreign ministry said this step harms people-to-people exchanges.

Chinese airlines have used Russian airspace to increase market share. The U.S. proposal aims to level the competition.

The department gave Chinese companies two days to respond. The final decision could take effect in November.
