Clashes on the Afghanistan–Pakistan Border

The Taliban government in Afghanistan confirmed that a military clash had taken place on the border with Pakistan. Taliban representatives said that 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 30 others were injured.
The Taliban described the attack as a “retaliatory strike.” According to them, Pakistan had earlier bombed a market inside Afghan territory and harmed civilians.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi called the attacks “baseless.” He said his country would respond firmly and take measures against every assault.
The Torkham and Chaman border crossings were closed, leaving hundreds of trucks stranded. Saudi Arabia and Qatar called on both sides to remain calm and engage in dialogue.
