UAE builds new oil pipeline bypassing the Strait of Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates has taken a strategic step to ensure global energy security and drastically reduce its dependence on the Strait of Hormuz for oil exports. Abu Dhabi Media Office According to reports, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, has given strict instructions to the renowned ADNOC company to maximize the pace of construction for the 'West-East Pipeline' project and.

Export capacity to double

The implementation of this massive project is of historical significance for the UAE. The new oil pipeline is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. Once operational, the country's capacity to export crude oil to the global market via the Port of Fujairah will double. This will allow the UAE to export oil without entering the Strait of Hormuz, a hotspot for regional political and military tensions.

The currently operational 'Habshan–Fujairah' pipeline has a capacity of 1.8 million barrels per day and is considered one of the most important infrastructure facilities in the Persian Gulf.

Why is this project so important now?

The urgency of the situation lies in the fact that among the Persian Gulf states, only the UAE and Saudi Arabia have alternative routes that bypass the Strait of Hormuz. However, recent political events have further intensified this necessity:

  • Military tension: Against the backdrop of US and Israeli operations against Iran at the end of February, shipping in the Strait of Hormuz came to a near standstill.

  • Global market shock: The closure of this route, through which 20 percent of the world's oil trade passes, caused energy prices to soar.

  • Economic consequences: Fuel shortages emerged in many countries, and inflation rates began to rise.

Towards energy independence

The UAE's acceleration of the new pipeline construction is seen as a rational solution aimed not only at protecting the country's economy but also at maintaining stability in the global energy market. By 2027, the Emirates will further solidify its position as the safest and most reliable partner in the oil supply chain.

Do you think the opening of new oil routes will help stabilize fuel prices in the future?
