Emery praises the strength of Spanish coaches

Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery shared his thoughts on the role and influence of Spanish specialists in modern football. The experienced manager emphasized that the Spanish coaching school currently represents one of the highest levels in world football.
According to Emery, Spanish coaches stand out not only for their results but also for their football philosophy, tactical approach, player management style, and competitiveness. He specifically mentioned specialists such as Luis Enrique, Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, Andoni Iraola, and Iñigo Pérez.
“The level of Spanish coaches right now is incredibly high. Luis Enrique’s level is amazing, especially considering how difficult it is to manage a club like PSG. He is doing a fantastic job,” said Emery.
Indeed, managing a club under as much pressure as PSG is no easy task for any coach. The Parisian team faces constant high demands, the responsibility of working with stars, and the pressure to win the Champions League. Luis Enrique is trying to instill his ideas into the team under these conditions.
Emery described Pep Guardiola as a figure of a special level in the world of coaching. In his opinion, the Manchester City manager has already attained legendary status.
“Pep is already a legend. In my opinion, he is the greatest genius in the world of coaching, because he maintains the same level he has shown throughout his career,” said the Aston Villa head coach.
Guardiola is considered one of the coaches who brought a new vision to football. His teams are distinguished by ball possession, positional play, high pressing, and intelligent movement on the pitch. His work at Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City has cemented his place in coaching history.
Emery also spoke warmly about Mikel Arteta. He noted that the Arsenal manager has proven himself to be a knowledgeable, demanding, and competitive coach in recent years.
Arteta oversaw a major rebuilding process at the London club. He put his faith in young players, established a clear system, and turned Arsenal back into one of the main forces in English football. Emery highly valued this process.
“I have learned a lot from all three of these specialists,” added the Spanish coach.
Emery also touched upon the work of Andoni Iraola. He believes that Iraola has achieved excellent results in recent seasons and demonstrated his coaching potential. His teams are usually characterized by active pressing, dynamic football, and quick decision-making.
Furthermore, the Aston Villa boss specifically acknowledged Iñigo Pérez, who led Rayo to the Conference League final. Emery called this result an extraordinary achievement.
“His experience and competitive spirit are clearly visible,” said the specialist.
Emery’s words once again show how strong the Spanish coaching school is. They work in different leagues, under different conditions, and at clubs of varying levels. But they all share a common trait: tactical knowledge, a deep approach to the game, and a desire for constant development.
Unai Emery himself is one of the brightest representatives of this school. He has gained vast experience working at clubs like Valencia, Sevilla, PSG, Arsenal, Villarreal, and Aston Villa. His success in European competitions, in particular, has made him one of the most respected coaches in modern football.
In short, by praising his Spanish colleagues, Emery actually reminded us how important tactical intelligence and coaching culture are in today's football. Spanish coaches are not just managing games now — they are shaping the future direction of football.
