Antoine Griezmann apologizes to Atletico Madrid fans

Antoine Griezmann bid an emotional farewell to Atletico Madrid fans on Sunday. The French forward used his final home match to sincerely apologize to supporters for his previous departure to Barcelona. The player, who is expected to join MLS side Orlando City this summer, admitted that leaving the Spanish capital in 2019 was a mistake. This is reported by Goal.com .
During the farewell ceremony held after the 1-0 victory over Girona, Griezmann took the microphone to address the fans. The 35-year-old, who became the club's all-time top scorer, wanted to clarify the controversy surrounding his €120 million move to Camp Nou seven years ago. He emphasized that he was young at the time and made a mistake, but later realized it and returned to the club.
Although Griezmann has won the Europa League and the World Cup with the France national team during his career, he regrets not winning La Liga or the Champions League with Atletico. Nevertheless, he stated that he values the fans' love above any trophy. "I couldn't bring a La Liga or Champions League title, but this love is worth more than any trophy," he said in his final speech at the stadium.
Atletico head coach Diego Simeone praised his star player, calling him "the best player in the club's history." Griezmann, in turn, expressed his gratitude to the Argentine manager, noting that it was under Simeone that he became one of the best players in the world and that it was an honor to fight alongside him.
