Vincent Kompany targets Manchester City defender for Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich could make a surprise move in the transfer market. According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, the German giants are considering the candidacy of Manchester City defender John Stones. The 31-year-old center-back's contract expires at the end of June and will not be renewed. This means Stones could join the Munich side as a free agent. This is reported by Goal.com .

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany is expected to play a key role in this transfer. Kompany played alongside Stones at Manchester City and knows his capabilities well. Also, Stones' England teammate Harry Kane currently plays for the Munich club. According to reports, the German record champions have been in contact with the player since February.

John Stones has won the Premier League six times with Manchester City and lifted the Champions League trophy in 2023. However, in the 2025/26 season, he made only 17 appearances under Pep Guardiola due to injuries. Despite having key defenders like Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah, Bayern aims to strengthen their bench.

At the same time, there are reports that Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol is also interested in a move to the Munich club. It is said that Gvardiol is a die-hard Bayern fan and wants to leave his team in the summer. Unlike Stones, Gvardiol's transfer could be much more expensive for the club, but he attracts the management with his ability to play at left-back as well.
