Diego Simeone agrees with Pep Guardiola's comments on fatigue

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has stated that he fully understands Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's decision to leave and shares his sentiments. Simeone emphasized that the tight schedule and constant pressure in modern football resemble a "non-stop avalanche" that mentally exhausts coaches. This is reported by Goal.com .
As the 2025-26 season draws to a close, Simeone admitted he has experienced one of the most difficult periods in charge of Atletico Madrid. During a press conference ahead of the match against Villarreal, the Argentine tactician did not hide that Pep Guardiola's farewell speech had a profound impact on him. According to him, although there is a difference in terms of trophies, he feels the same mental state as Guardiola regarding coaching.
"Honestly, I read Guardiola's comments from the press conference yesterday. If you change the name — even though I haven't won as many trophies as he has — I saw myself in the story he told. Being in the spotlight every three days, working with players, and managing the group creates a non-stop avalanche. As soon as a match ends, everything starts all over again two days later," said Simeone.
Despite the fatigue, Simeone said he is proud of his team's efforts this season and is aiming for even higher results next season. He also called Pep Guardiola the best coach in the world, praising his ability to reinvent himself and keep winning.
"He has done an incredible job. A team like Manchester City may have many stars, but winning and finding motivation every year is very difficult. I don't think he will be away from football for long; he will definitely return after a one or two-year break because he breathes football," the Atletico Madrid manager added.
