Liverpool set to sign 17-year-old Colombian talent
Liverpool are close to securing one of South America's most promising young talents. The Merseyside club has reached an agreement to sign Samuel Martinez, a product of the Colombian club Atletico Nacional, to bolster their midfield for the future. This is reported by Goal.com reports .
According to reports, Liverpool beat out several European giants in the race for the 17-year-old attacking midfielder. The transfer fee is expected to be around £740,000. Martinez caught the scouts' attention with his brilliant performances at the South American U17 Championship. He made a significant contribution to his national team's success in the tournament, providing three assists in six matches.
Clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona had also shown serious interest in signing Samuel Martinez. However, the player chose the English Premier League and the atmosphere at Anfield. According to journalists Pipe Sierra and Paul Joyce, a five-year contract is expected to be signed. The deal includes a sell-on clause for Atletico Nacional.
Under transfer regulations, signing official contracts with foreign players under the age of 18 is restricted. Therefore, Martinez's official arrival at Liverpool is scheduled for the summer of 2027. Until then, the right-footed playmaker will remain in his home country to continue gaining experience.
