Max Eberl responds to Uli Hoeneß's doubts
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has responded to the doubts expressed by honorary president Uli Hoeneß regarding his future. Following Bayern's 3-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal final, Eberl admitted in an interview with Sky that he was surprised by Hoeneß's comments. This is reported by Goal.com .
Previously, Hoeneß told Der Spiegel that he rated the chances of extending Eberl's contract, which expires in 2027, at 60-40. "I want to do my job and prove myself through results. We can be proud of what we have achieved as a team this season. It is natural for people to have doubts, that is their right," Eberl emphasized.
Eberl joined Bayern in March 2024 and played a key role in the appointment of Vincent Kompany as head coach. Under Kompany, the Munich club secured a "double" by winning both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal this season. In the Champions League, they were eliminated in the semi-finals after dramatic matches against Paris Saint-Germain.
Addressing his 60:40 forecast, Uli Hoeneß clarified that it was his personal and honest opinion. "Those who know me know that I always speak the truth. That is the situation; in two or three months, everything will be clear. Personally, I am optimistic about his future," said the 74-year-old.
At the end of May, the Bayern supervisory board, including Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, will hold a meeting. The extension of the contracts of Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund is expected to be discussed. For now, both executives' current agreements run until 2027.
