Google enters the design world: new Pics app unveiled

At its annual Google I/O event, Google announced Pics, a new AI-powered design and image creation app for Google Workspace. The company emphasizes that it has designed this tool to be accessible to all users, from educators to small business owners. With Pics, users can create graphics for social media, invitations, and marketing materials through simple text prompts without needing specialized design skills. This is reported by Techcrunch.com .
With this move, Google is competing against rivals like Canva and Anthropic's Claude Design. Pics has initially been released for a group of testers and will be available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the summer. The main advantage of the app is that it not only generates images but also allows for editing them.
The design process is powered by Gemini, making it easy to customize every element. Users can perfect designs by leaving comments on specific parts of an image or making direct changes, just as in Google Docs. For example, there is an option to manually change the time on an invitation.
The Pics app runs on the Nano Banana 2 model, which ensures accurate text rendering and high-quality visual results. Deeply integrated into the Google Workspace system, this tool facilitates team collaboration. There is also the option to download, print, or share finished designs with other users.
