Google introduces AI-powered design app Pics

At its traditional Google I/O event, Google announced Pics, a new AI-powered design and image creation app for Google Workspace. The company emphasizes that it has designed this tool to be accessible to all users, from educators to small business owners. With Pics, users can create social media posts, invitations, and marketing materials via simple text prompts without needing special graphic design skills. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
With this step, Google has entered the design market to compete with rivals like Canva and Anthropic's Claude Design. Pics is not limited to just image generation; it also allows for editing. Integrated with Gemini technology, the app enables users to edit individual elements of an image by leaving comments or making direct changes, similar to Google Docs.
The Pics app runs on the Nano Banana 2 model, which ensures accurate text rendering and high-quality visual results. Fully integrated with Google Workspace, this tool facilitates teamwork: finished designs can be downloaded, copied, or shared with collaborators. The app is currently open to test groups and will be available to Google AI Ultra subscribers this summer.
