NVIDIA invests in Alice & Bob, a startup building fault-tolerant quantum computers

Paris-based startup Alice & Bob announced that it has secured an investment from NVIDIA's venture capital arm, NVentures, to build fault-tolerant quantum computers based on its proprietary cat-qubit architecture. These funds are part of an extended Series B funding round, which previously raised 100 million euros with the participation of Future French Champions, AXA Venture Partners, and Bpifrance. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .

Alice & Bob is integrating its hardware with NVIDIA's CUDA-Q and NVQLink technologies. This allows for the unification of quantum and classical accelerators into a single system. This approach aligns perfectly with NVIDIA's strategy: the company focuses on software tools and integration with various quantum architectures rather than building its own QPU devices.

NVentures is currently investing in various quantum technologies, including ion traps (Quantinuum), neutral atoms (QuEra), photonic solutions (PsiQuantum), and now the superconducting cat-qubits of Alice & Bob. This reflects NVIDIA's commitment to universality and software flexibility.

The main technical advantage of Alice & Bob is the hardware-level elimination of bit-flip errors. According to the company's estimates, this allows for the creation of a fault-tolerant system using only thousands of physical qubits, rather than the millions required by competitors. The startup's primary goal is to deliver a practically useful quantum computer by 2030.

This funding comes at a time of increased government support: in the US, $2 billion is being allocated for quantum companies under the CHIPS Act, while France is implementing the 1.8 billion euro Proqcima program. Alice & Bob has been recognized as one of the national leaders under this program. The exact amount and share of the investment by NVentures have not yet been disclosed.
