Uzbekistan is among the cheapest countries to live in

According to a global ranking compiled by Numbeo, several Central Asian countries — Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan — have been listed among countries with a low cost of living.

The ranking includes a total of 155 countries. New York was selected as the baseline reference point, with its price level set at 100: the lower the index, the cheaper it is considered to live in a country. The calculations took into account housing rent, utility services, food products, restaurants, as well as the population’s purchasing power.

The indicators for Central Asia are as follows:

Kazakhstan — 29.8 (128th place)
Tajikistan — 27.9 (136th place)
Uzbekistan — 27.3 (138th place)
Kyrgyzstan — 27.3 (140th place)

The highest purchasing power in the region was recorded in Kazakhstan, while the lowest indicator was noted in Tajikistan.

At the same time, a low cost of living does not always mean a high standard of living: differences in purchasing power reflect the gap between price levels and the real incomes of the population.
