In Tashkent air quality worsened due to a drop in temperature

In Tashkent city and region, the atmospheric condition has worsened following a drop in air temperature. According to “Uzgidromet,” starting from February 28, a cold air mass began entering the country, and there is almost no wind around the capital.

Specialists note that the sharp temperature difference — +3…+5 degrees at night and +11…+15 degrees during the day — is causing morning fog and temperature inversion. This means that cool air “settles” near the ground, while relatively warmer air remains above, reducing air circulation.

As a result of these meteorological factors, air exchange in the near-surface layer has slowed down. Pollutants do not disperse quickly and instead “accumulate” over the city. Currently, an increase in the concentration of fine particulate matter — PM2.5 and PM10 — is being observed in the air of Tashkent city and region.

There is also good news: forecasters say precipitation is expected starting tomorrow. This may “wash out” dust and fine particles from the air and improve air quality indicators.
