Donnarumma calls for rebuilding Italy after painful defeat

Italy national team and “Manchester City” goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma shared his feelings and thoughts with fans after the unsuccessful match against Bosnia and Herzegovina (1:1, pen. 1:4).
In his statement, he apologized to the fans for the fact that the “Squadra Azzurra” failed to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time. “After yesterday’s match, my heart hurt a lot and I cried. I regret that I could not take Italy to the high level it deserves. I feel great sadness together with this team and with you, dear fans,” said Donnarumma.
He admitted that words mean nothing right now, but added: “After such a heavy defeat, we must find the will, passion and confidence in ourselves to open a new page. Confidence is the force that drives us forward. Life rewards those who do not spare themselves.”
Donnarumma also emphasized that in the penalty shootout he could not save a single shot, and tearing the opponent’s note turned him into a kind of “anti-hero.”
He concluded: “We must start again from the beginning. Together. We will strive to bring Italy back to the high peaks it deserves.”
