Nonito Donaire names the boxer who could stop Naoya Inoue

Former four-division world champion Nonito Donaire has shared his thoughts on the boxer capable of defeating Japanese star Naoya Inoue. In his view, Jesse Rodriguez has the technical ability to accomplish this task.
Donaire emphasized that Rodriguez is one of the few boxers who could pose problems for Inoue in terms of style, movement, and technical skill in the ring. He possesses key attributes such as speed, combination punching, transition from defense to offense, and the ability to put opponents in uncomfortable positions.
“Technically and stylistically, Jesse Rodriguez could beat Inoue. He has all the necessary skills. However, his small stature could be a major disadvantage, as it is difficult to compete against an opponent like Naoya with a smaller frame,” Donaire said, as quoted by The Ring.
At the same time, Donaire did not hide the fact that physical dimensions could be the main issue for Rodriguez. It is not easy to fight against an opponent like Inoue, who has high punching power, speed, and knows how to apply pressure in the ring, while being smaller in size.
Naoya Inoue is recognized as one of the most dangerous and consistent champions in professional boxing today. He remains undefeated in his career, having won all 33 of his bouts.
Jesse Rodriguez is also undefeated in the professional ring. He has fought 23 times and won every bout, with 16 of those victories coming by way of knockout.
In short, Donaire suggests that to beat Inoue, one needs more than just power—it requires intelligence, technique, and the right style. He believes Rodriguez has that potential, but stepping into the ring against Inoue is no ordinary test; it is essentially a boxing “boss fight.”
