A Major Step Toward Volkswagen Production in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is embarking on another significant development in the automotive industry. Plans are underway to launch the production of Volkswagen vehicles in Tashkent and Angren in the near future. This represents a serious step for the country's industry, the local market, and future export opportunities.
According to the plan, the initial stage will involve semi-knocked-down (SKD) assembly of Volkswagen vehicles in Tashkent. This means that the main components will be imported ready-made and assembled at the local facility. This process will establish the production system, allow specialists to gain experience, and prepare the first models according to market demand.
In the next phase, the project will be expanded to include full-cycle production within the Angren Free Economic Zone. This means not only assembling vehicles but also localizing certain spare parts, expanding the production chain, and optimizing product costs.
Increasing the level of localization is also beneficial for the country's economy. It means new jobs, orders for local enterprises, technological expertise, and strengthened industrial potential. Most importantly, it opens up the possibility of exporting Volkswagen vehicles produced in Uzbekistan to foreign markets in the future.
Additionally, alongside Volkswagen, the launch of Foton and JAC automotive plants is expected this year. This will increase competition in the Uzbek automotive market, expand choices for buyers, and bring a fresh impetus to the sector.
In short, the launch of Volkswagen production in Tashkent and Angren is more than just an industrial project. It is a new stage for Uzbekistan's automotive industry, an increase in local production capacity, and another important step toward the country becoming a regional automotive hub.
