12,000 miles with the new Ford Capri: Pleasant, but overpriced

Getting back behind the wheel of a Ford is truly pleasant. Once the go-to choice for millions of drivers in the UK, the brand's standing has significantly declined despite the success of the Puma. The main reason for this is the lack of a complete model lineup. New Ford cars used to be a common sight on the streets, but now they are becoming harder to find. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk reports .
The new Capri I am driving is a completely different Ford. It is built on the Volkswagen ID.4 platform, and the brand's European model lineup has changed beyond recognition. It is surprising that the Fiesta, the best-seller for 47 years, was discontinued in 2023, and the Focus, once as popular as the Volkswagen Golf, has also become history. To fill this gap, Ford struck a deal with Wolfsburg, using the MEB platform for the boxy Explorer and the slightly sleeker Capri.
Although this partnership seems a bit strange, both models have retained the Ford spirit, but they are much more expensive. My new Capri RWD Extended Range Premium version costs £53,235, even after a £4,000 discount provided by Ford to make the price more attractive. The car is equipped with an additional £5,050 worth of option packs, including vibrant blue paint, a driver assistance system, a heat pump, and 21-inch alloy wheels.
The modern Capri is not exactly handsome from the outside — it is quite tall, and because of its short nose, the rear window does not fully evoke the look of the legendary classic coupe. Nevertheless, the car manages to attract attention with its good technical performance. I do not want to dwell on the controversy surrounding Ford's use of this famous name, as enough has already been said on this topic.
