Can't migrant children study for free in Russia?

Russian State Duma deputies are preparing a new draft law that could prohibit free education for children from migrant families in grades 1 through 11. The proposal has sparked widespread debate across media and society.

According to the initiative, foreign children will only be allowed to attend Russian schools on a paid basis. In addition, they will be granted only three attempts to pass a test verifying their knowledge of the Russian language.

Deputy Yaroslav Nilov stated that this is a revised version of a previously rejected proposal. The updated draft is now being reviewed at the inter-factional level and is expected to be resubmitted to the State Duma soon.
