Netanyahu and Trump discuss war in Iran and new scenarios

Amid rising political and military tensions in the Middle East, an important dialogue took place between the leaders of two major nations currently at the center of global attention. A spokesperson for the Israeli Prime Minister's office The Times of Israel reported that Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed military actions in Iran and the current situation in the region in detail via phone.

Dialogue ahead of a closed-door meeting

This intense conversation was held prior to a highly important and classified meeting on security issues in Israel. On May 17, during a cabinet meeting held for Jerusalem Day, Netanyahu had previously announced his intention to call the White House leader.

“I want to hear his impressions of his visit to China and his thoughts on other pressing issues. We have many potential scenarios ahead of us, and we are fully prepared for any of them,” the Israeli head of government emphasized.

New and stronger strikes against Iran are being prepared

The gravity of the situation The New York Times report also confirms. Citing official sources in the Middle East, the publication writes that Washington and Tel Aviv have begun preparations for new, much stronger military operations against Iran. This plan envisions more aggressive bombing of Iran's military facilities and critical infrastructure.

According to the American leader, the main part of the military conflict in Iran, i.e., nearly 70-75 percent has practically come to an end.

5 conditions for peace negotiations

This week, both sides put forward their firm demands to stop the war and return to the negotiating table. However, the gap between the parties' positions remains significant.

Iran's demands:

  1. Immediate cessation of military operations (including in Lebanon);

  2. Lifting of all economic sanctions against Tehran;

  3. Unfreezing of all blocked financial assets;

  4. Compensation for the massive material damage caused by the war;

  5. Recognition of Iran's full sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. and Washington's counter-demands:

  1. Iran must abandon all claims regarding compensation, payments, and the return of assets;

  2. Tehran must hand over its 400 kg of uranium raw materials to the United States;

  3. Only one nuclear facility will be permitted to operate on Iranian territory.

The American side stresses that the complete cessation of military attacks depends directly on Iran meeting these conditions and how the negotiation process unfolds. Whether true peace is established in the region or the flames of war intensify depends on the outcome of negotiations over these terms.

Do you think the parties can reach a peace agreement under these strict conditions, or will the situation become even more complicated?
