Uzbek Chess Players Secure Podium Finish in Astana

The international "Turkic Team Chess Championships 2026" took place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from May 13–17. National teams from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan competed in this prestigious chess tournament among Turkic states.

A total of 70 chess players competed in the men's and women's categories. Uzbekistan was represented by 10 athletes across both teams. Every match throughout the tournament was characterized by intense competition, focus, and high stakes.

According to the final results, the Uzbekistan women's team secured 3rd place with 8 points. Our representatives earned the bronze medal and a cash prize of 4,000 USD for their performance.

The women's team achieved strong results not only in the overall standings but also on individual boards. Afruza Hamdamova took 1st place on board 1, confirming her leadership skills and high-level gameplay once again.

Additionally, Umida Omonova placed 2nd on board 2, Guldona Karimova earned 3rd place on board 3, and Madinabonu Xalilova finished 2nd on board 4, contributing significantly to the team's success.

The Uzbekistan men's team also fought hard throughout the tournament, finishing in 4th place overall. Although they narrowly missed the podium, this result provides valuable experience and important insights for future competitions.

The "Turkic Team Chess Championships 2026" served not only as a sporting event but also as a platform for cooperation, experience exchange, and friendly competition between the chess schools of Turkic nations. Such tournaments offer young players the chance to test themselves in an international environment.

In short, the Astana tournament concluded with positive results for Uzbekistan chess. The women's team secured a podium finish, and several representatives excelled on individual boards, proving the potential, character, and bright future of Uzbek chess.
