Bruno Fernandes reveals why he did not join Tottenham

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has spoken about how close he came to joining Tottenham before his move to the club in 2020. The Portuguese midfielder revealed that the Sporting management blocked the transfer at the last minute. This is reported by Goal.com .

Spurs targeted Fernandes in 2019 as a replacement for Christian Eriksen. Although negotiations were well advanced, the Portuguese club decided not to sell the player two days before the transfer window closed. Bruno Fernandes stated that at the time, he was ready to join the London club because he dreamed of playing in the English Premier League.

"Yes, I talked to Tottenham and we were very close to a deal. But Sporting said they wouldn't sell me and that I was needed by the team. For me, the English championship is the strongest league in the world, so I really wanted to play there. Fortunately, I later received an offer from my dream team — Manchester United," the player said.

Fernandes also addressed criticism regarding his playing style and leadership qualities. Specifically, responding to the opinions of pundits like Roy Keane, he noted that he always accepts fair criticism correctly and never feels the need to respond to them.

Bruno Fernandes became a Manchester United player in January 2020 for £67.6 million. Since then, he has been one of the team's most important players and has contributed many goals and assists.
