Jeremy Jacquet speaks on his Liverpool transfer and the £60 million pressure

Rennes' young defender Jeremy Jacquet has shared his thoughts on his move to Liverpool and the significant transfer fee paid for him. The Merseyside club decided to spend £60 million (£55 million base fee plus £5 million in add-ons) for the 21-year-old, making him one of the 10 most expensive French players in history. This is reported by Goal.com .

The young defender admitted that such a large sum places additional responsibility on his shoulders. "The question of whether I am worth this price naturally puts pressure on me. But I believe I have the resources to play at the Liverpool level. I am going there to get as much playing time as possible," Jacquet emphasized.

It is reported that Chelsea was also actively involved in the race for Jeremy Jacquet, but the player preferred the Liverpool project. According to him, the competition within the Chelsea squad is too high and there was less clarity regarding the future. Liverpool, on the other hand, offered him a clear development path.

Jacquet is looking forward to learning from an experienced defender like Virgil van Dijk at his new club. "Virgil van Dijk is nearing the end of his career, and training alongside him will be a huge experience for me. Also, my compatriot Ibrahima Konate is there, and he will help me adapt," says the young talent.

Now fully recovered from a shoulder injury, the defender is ready for the new pre-season preparations. The Liverpool coaching staff sees him as a long-term cornerstone of the team's defensive line. Although Jacquet has played only 31 matches in Ligue 1, his potential is highly rated by experts.
