Spotify launches audiobook creation tool based on ElevenLabs technology

Spotify has introduced an audiobook publishing tool based on ElevenLabs artificial intelligence technology within its Spotify for Authors platform. Announced at Investor Day, this new feature will launch in beta in June, by invitation only, and initially in English. The tool does not bind authors to exclusive contracts, meaning created audiobooks can be freely distributed on other platforms. This is according to Techcrunch.com reports.
This innovation is a logical continuation of the partnership between Spotify and ElevenLabs; previously, authors could upload content created on the startup's platform to Spotify. Although the company has been partnering with Google Play Books on digital narration, the more natural and expressive voice models provided by ElevenLabs are expected to be more attractive to authors.
The Spotify for Authors platform now supports 10 additional languages, including French, German, Dutch, Spanish, and Scandinavian languages. The company also plans to expand its Audiobook+ plans, increase listening limits, and introduce special subscription types for students and families in the future. Currently, the platform has over one million Audiobook+ subscribers.
The company is also introducing a feature to create playlists via natural language prompts to simplify the audiobook search process. In recent years, Spotify has grown its audiobook catalog to 700,000 titles and actively expanded into international markets. As a result, audiobook listening hours on the platform have increased by 60 percent compared to last year.
