Shavkat Mirziyoyev Meets Japan Parliamentary Friendship League Leader Taro Aso

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Taro Aso, Vice-President of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party, Chairperson of the parliamentary friendship league with Uzbekistan, and the Central Asian Friendship League. The discussions focused on pressing issues related to expanding Uzbekistan–Japan strategic partnership, particularly in the inter-parliamentary domain.

Members of the friendship league also participated in the meeting. Both sides emphasized the importance of the role of parliaments in fostering the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and the need to continue inter-parliamentary dialogue on a regular basis.

It was noted that the contribution of the friendship league, especially its chairperson Taro Aso, in strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan is highly appreciated. Furthermore, particular attention was given to enhancing inter-parliamentary relations and boosting the role of parliamentary friendship groups in promoting joint initiatives.

At the conclusion of the meeting, an agreement was reached to organize the next Inter-Parliamentary Forum in Uzbekistan in 2026.

For reference, the Uzbekistan Friendship League was established in 2002 and currently has more than 40 members, including prominent Japanese political figures, influential parliamentarians, and diplomats.
