Bayern’s head coach Vincent Kompany shared his thoughts after an important victory over Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal. The Belgian specialist did not hide that he is satisfied with his team’s performance.
According to Kompany, playing at a stadium like the Santiago Bernabeu is never easy. Especially in the final minutes of the match, when the hosts significantly increase the pressure. Despite this, Bayern’s players were prepared for such a situation and managed to show themselves достойно.
“This was a very difficult and intense game. At the Bernabeu, the final minutes always pass under strong pressure, but my team was ready for it. We had several more good chances, unfortunately, we could not fully take advantage of them. In the return match, we will try to score again,” he said.
In the coach’s opinion, in the current situation Bayern has every chance to reach the semifinals. At the same time, he highly appreciated the opponent’s potential.
“I do not see any reason why Bayern should not advance to the next stage. But Real is a very strong and experienced opponent. Therefore, nothing has been decided yet,” Kompany noted.
He also separately highlighted the performance of the team’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, emphasizing that he once again demonstrated his high level. According to him, the experienced goalkeeper plays a key role in the team’s success.
“Neuer once again showed his level. He is a very important player for us,” the coach concluded.
Now all attention is focused on the return match, where it will be decided which team will reach the semifinals.
