David Alaba to leave Real Madrid: The Madrid club bids him farewell

David Alaba will leave Real Madrid at the end of the current season. The Madrid club has decided not to extend the Austrian defender's expiring contract. The capital club officially confirmed this decision on Friday. The 33-year-old's next destination is currently unknown. This is according to a report by

Goal.com. Having joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2021, Alaba won two Champions League titles and two La Liga trophies with the club. However, his tenure in the Spanish capital was significantly hampered by serious injuries: a torn ACL at the end of 2023 sidelined him for over a year, while a meniscus injury in the summer of 2025 further extended his recovery process.

Due to injuries, Alaba made only 15 official appearances for the club this season. In its statement, Real Madrid noted, "We express our gratitude and affection to a player who was part of our team during one of the most successful periods in our history." Club president Florentino Pérez added, "Real Madrid will always be his home."

A special farewell ceremony for David Alaba will be held at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium before the final home match of the season against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. Following this, he will head to the World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada as the captain of the Austria national team.
