Citroën is bringing back the legendary 2CV as an affordable electric car

French manufacturer Citroën has officially confirmed the revival of its legendary 2CV model. The new vehicle will be an affordable city electric car priced at around £15,000. During the Stellantis Investor Day held in Michigan, Citroën CEO Xavier Chardon unveiled the first teaser of the new model, announcing that "the 2CV is coming back." This is reported by Autocar.co.uk .

The new electric car will be produced starting in 2028 at a plant in Italy alongside the updated Fiat Panda. In terms of design, it will retain the iconic "snail" silhouette of its 1940s classic ancestor, but will be enriched with modern elements in the style of the Citroën ELO concept. This model is part of the brand's strategy to gain leadership in the affordable segment of the European market.

Xavier Chardon emphasized that the new 2CV will serve the mission of providing mobility to millions, just as it did in the post-World War II era. "Eight decades later, the new 2CV will democratize electric mobility," he said. The car is expected to replace the current gasoline-powered C1 model and be one of seven new models planned by the brand by 2030.

The company head noted that iconic models emotionally connect brands with people, and the 2CV possesses exactly that power. The full design of the car will be presented to the general public at the Paris Motor Show this October. This project is a key link in the Stellantis group's global plan to produce affordable electric vehicles.
