Trump delays signing executive order on AI safety

US President Donald Trump has delayed signing an executive order that would require government review of artificial intelligence (AI) models before their public release. Trump stated he is dissatisfied with the current draft and does not want to jeopardize leadership in the field. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
"I didn't like certain aspects of the order," Trump told White House press officials. He emphasized that the US is currently ahead of China and other nations in the AI race and wants to avoid any steps that could hinder this leadership.
According to unofficial reports, the delay was also caused by the inability of tech company executives to reach Washington on short notice. The expected order was to task the Office of the National Cyber Director and other agencies with developing a process to evaluate AI models from a security perspective.
These measures are a response to concerns following the release of Anthropic's Mythos and OpenAI's GPT-5.5 Cyber models. These models are said to be capable of quickly identifying and exploiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
According to CNN, one of the most controversial provisions in the order is the requirement for AI companies to submit their advanced models to the government 14 to 90 days before launch. Trump is concerned that this requirement could be a "barrier" to technological development.
